Ivybridge at home

November 25, 2008

The guys at Ivybridge have confirmed the match is on for this Sunday. It looks like we’ll have all the junior teams playing so we’ll have to stick as close to our start times as possible –  you may not know that other teams regularly use the U7/8/9s pitches for warm ups on match days.

Anyway , assuming the weather is ok we’ll be starting at 10.00 with the first kick off around 10.30.

And please, please make sure the kids are warm – with two games plus loads of substitutes they’ll be sitting around from time to time.

Subscriptions!

November 21, 2008

It’s now the end of November and the kids have been playing every weekend for almost three months.  Unfortunately some people have not paid their subscriptions.  For one child the cost is only £45.00 a year, very good value when you think about it.

There aren’t many things kids can do for a couple of hours a week for only £45.00.  And that’s not all (yes, I had to say it),  did you know that the kids are not covered by the clubs insurance if they are not members!

Did you also know that the £45.00 is a family membership for a year! So mums and dads can take advantage of the club’s facilities as well.

And, if you’ve got more than one child playing rugby, you’ll get discounts for the other children!

All in all, it adds up to a very good deal so please please pay the subs. (ask Jon or Andy for the forms)

The next few weeks

November 21, 2008

Well, if you didn’t go to Totnes at the weekend you missed an interesting session. For some stange reason the match between Totnes and Teignmouth is always eventful! Last season was full of incedents and the match at the weekend had its fair share of dodgy decisions, arguements and lots of touchline mutterings.

Without getting too carried away the match did illustrate one thing -  if you reallly want to stop a game, play the off-side rule to the letter of the law!

Many clubs will now be adding mid-week training sessions for the U8s whihc gives them more time to understand the essentials of the off-side rule. Unfortunately it now mean that TRFC U7/U8s have to get to  grips with it if they are to still enjoy the tag rugby.

So from this weekend the training will be changing slightly. We’ll be working on the off-side laws encouraging players to take up key positions on the field.  So if parents can lend a hand that would be great.

Next match 16th November

November 11, 2008

Just a quick reminder, the next match for the U7s and U8s will be against Totnes at their ground. You can either go direct to the ground (which is near the railway station in Totnes) or meet at TRFC at about 10.00.  We need to be at the ground at 10.30 for a 11.00 kick off.

Last year it was pouring down in Teignmouth but dry in Totnes so it’s worth checking with the coaches if the weather looks a bit dodgy.

Can you also make sure that the kids are both warm and dry

Brixham match

November 5, 2008

Latest news from the Brixham guys is that they’re looking forward to coming over on Sunday. Assuming it’s not coming down like stair-rods, they should be with us about 10.00-10.15.

It would be good if the TRFC kids coould be at the ground at 10.00 latest.

cheers

Didn’t they do well?

November 5, 2008

The season’s only a few week old and the kids have already played two very difficult teams – Newton Abbot and Topsham. in both matches the guys excelled themselves. The Under 8s are rapidly becoming the team to beat. Most of them played together in the Under7s last year and the experience really does show.

Even though other under8 teams have mid-week training sessions, they were comprehensive winners away to Topsham and now they can look forward to Brixham at home on Sunday.  They’re playing great rugby and all of them seem to be enjoying themselves.

As for the Under7s, the coaches agree that there’s the making of a very good team there. In fact, we reckon that overall the under7s are probably better that previous teams we’ve coached at this level.

Many of the kids are still struggling to come to terms with the basic rules (passing backwards being one of them!) but they have come along way in the last month. And they’re now showing signs of success. They were unfortunate to lose the first game against Topsham and proved worthy winner in the second game.

We didn’t play Brixham last year so this Sunday’s game will be a novilty for all of us.  But I’m sure if they show the same spirit as in the games and the training last week, they’ll do very well.

We’re lucky to have some many U7s coming to training and if they can keep together over the winter come April next year they’ll be impressing all of us.
