Training 1st February

January 29, 2009

With all the chopping and changing over the last few weeks because of the weather we’ve decided that the kids might be better off not committing to play a match against Paignton this weekend but to concentrate on some training. With all the cancelled sesssion recently, it seems like a good idea to spend sometime concentrating on the basics again.

Even with only six kids in the U7s last week at Ivybridge, the guys still managed to win the first match 10 -3!

Unfortunatley they did play two games and lost the second (against a fresh team) – but they were extrememely tired.

The U8’s also showed impressive form winning the first and losing the second matches but again they were playing a fresh team in the second match.

So this Sunday we’ll either train at TRFC or if we can’t use to the pitch we’ll go to the Broadmeadow sports centre.

Paignton matches cancelled

January 17, 2009

We’ve just received a phone call from Paignton confirming that after a pitch inspection all matches are cancelled. The next game is against Ivybridge on Sunday 25th January.

Paignton match is on

January 16, 2009

Just to confirm the match against Paignton has been confirmed  with a kick off time for the U7/U8s pencilled in for 10.45.  If you’re meeting at TRFC beforehand can I suggest we leave TRFC at 9.30 at the latest so the kids will have enough time to warm up etc.

Topsham Matches Cancelled!

January 10, 2009

Due to the very cold weather the matches on Sunday against Topsham have been cancelled. Apparently the ground is frozen for 2/3 inches with little chance of it all thawing before Sunday 10.00.

The next match is away to Paignton on 18th January.

cheers Andy

A busy few weeks

January 8, 2009

Yes, so U7s didn’t beat either Newton Abbot or Plymstock but they did very well. Bearing in mind they hadn’t played a match for three weeks, they were excellent. The passing is improving and so is the tagging althoug there were a couple of moments where we seemed to let the opposition come straight through. The most pleasiing thing was that a few of the tries came from sustained pressure where the ball was passed more than 5/6 times – so good on ‘em!

As for the U8s they just seem to get better and better. I’m not sure how many of the local will have such a strong record. And if they all stay together between now and next season, what a great U9s will they make!

Between now and then they’ve all got lots of matches – over the next three weeks we’re playing Topsham (h) Paington (a) and Ivybridge (a) so that’ll be interesting.

With the cold weather please make  sure the kids are warm enough. Extra clothing is the name of the game (including gloves if possible).

Also there is always a ppitch inspection on the Saturday (if we’re playing at home) afterwhich the coaches are informed whether or not the matches/training can take place. So if you are in any doubt, call me on 07968827277 or get hold of Jon Southwood.
